Andi Campognone
Andi Campognone — The only name on this list with a documented, sustained record in the formal history of painting as medium and problem. She co-curated Driven to Abstraction: Southern California and the Non-Objective World, 1950–1980 — the first museum exhibition exclusively dedicated to abstract painting from Southern California — with Bell, Valentine, Davis, Kauffman, Eversley. She then co-curated Smooth Operations: Substance and Surface in Southern California Art, examining Finish Fetish and Light and Space as formal movements emerging from material logic. These are genuine formalist credentials. She has since moved toward community consulting and artist-coaching, but the nucleus of her curatorial identity — surface, material, the non-objective — is real and documented.
